About moldova.be

moldova.be is an independent atlas and guide to the Republic of Moldova, in Dutch, French, English, German and Romanian. We do not sell trips and are not paid by the places we describe.

Every text starts with research: official sources such as the national tourism office, the National Bureau of Statistics, the National Office for Vine and Wine (ONVV), the wine houses themselves, museums, UNESCO and the Belgian Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, plus the press and specialist literature. Sources are listed at the bottom of each page. Figures that change carry a year.

We describe the left bank of the Dniester (Transnistria) and the autonomous region of Gagauzia factually and neutrally, with the current travel advice. Prices, timetables and rules change: check the official website before you go.

The texts were written in Dutch and then translated for meaning, not word for word. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences; author and licence are shown with every image. For living people we show places rather than portraits.

The videos are edits of those freely licensed photos with narration by a synthetic (AI) voice in each of the five languages (Dutch in a Flemish and a Netherlands version), with subtitles.
